How to find people using their email address

Let’s assume you receive an interesting email and before you reply you want to know something more about the person who sent it. How do you find information about someone based only the email address?

There are 2 possible ways:
1. obvious using that email address
2. using the IP behind that email address to track the location and possible the computer owner name, address, phone number, etc.

Using Google Search to find a person behind an email address

Well, probably the first thing you will do is to copy & paste the email address into Google search. The chances are, if this is a business email or anyway some sort of public email used largely on web, for you to find details about who’s behind that email address.

Using Facebook or other Social Networks to search for a person using an email address

A much precise method of finding the sender is to use Facebook where you can find people typing their email address. Chances are huge since Facebook has half of million users world wide! Do it by pasting the email into Facebook search, hit the search button and voila – here is the name. Or maybe not yet? Then go search on other well knows networks like Twitter, StumbleUpon, etc. Lot of work? Oh, well… at least you have a try.

Using the email headers

The majority of the big email clients like Gmail, Yahoo email, Hotmail are offering more info about the emails you receive. This method is based on the footprint attached with the emails we send. This footprint contains the IP, except de situation when you send the email through a proxy server (unusual) or when you use Gmail which is hiding the sender IP. The find out more info check out this article offering detailed steps to determine the IP behind of an email.

Using dedicated websites’ services to find people

Is easy and free. Or at least you can find a couple of free services out there. My favorite? Pipl.com. But I’m sure you will find a bunch of websites specialized in people search. Some other are Yahoo and Yellow pages.

Good luck with!
If you know other methods just drop a line :)
